GOVERNOR MODELS

The JSV aircraft propeller governors are base mounted centrifugal governors for use with hydraulic constant speed propellers on single or twin engine aircraft. They control aircraft engine speed by continual varying the pitch of the propeller to match propeller torque (and, hence, engine load ) to engine developed torque as changes occur in flight conditions. The governors are single-acting using engine oil pressure either to increase or decrease pitch. Pitch change in the opposite direction is accomplished by the force of the propeller blade twisting moment and servo spring, or propeller counterweights. Governors are available for both counterweighted or uncounterweighted propellers.

UNCOUNTERWEIGHTED PROPELLER

Uncounterweighted propellers are used for single engine aircrafts only. Governor oil pressure is used to increase the blade angle – governors are pressure to INCREASE types. Thus when the throttle setting is increased, the governor ports more oil to the propeller to increase propeller pitch. When the throttle is closed, an underspeed condition occurs and oil is forced from the propeller by the twisting movement of the blades. This centrifugal twisting movement toward low pitch is an aerodynamic force that increases rapidly with airspeed and horsepower.

For uncounterweighted propellers are applicable INCREASE governors designated as
P-A10-X/Y and P-A20-X/Y.

They are the most common governors of a standard design.

COUNTERWEIGHTED PROPELLER

Counterweighted propellers are used mostly for multi engine aircrafts, aerobatics aircrafts and motor gliders. Governor oil pressure is used to decrease the blade angle – governors are pressure to DECREASE types. Thus when the throttle setting is increased, an overspeed condition occurs and oil is forced from the propeller by the centrifugal force of  propeller counterweights. When the throttle is closed, an overspeed condition occurs and the governor ports more oil to the propeller to decrease propeller pitch.
At the feathering type propellers, a spring load is composed to complete the feathering cycle as rotation speed and counterweight force diminishes.

For counterweighted propellers are applicable DECREASE governors designated as P-A30-X/Y and P-A40-X/Y. Dimensions and external appearance of those governors are similar to increase governors.

Accumulator
Governors with connection to hydraulic accumulator (aerobatics) are designating as P-A44-X/Y. Those governors have different body which incorporates connection fitting for accumulator.

Feathering
Feathering governors incorporates provisions for feathering of the propeller, when the pilot´s propeller control lever is pulled back through the feathering detent. Feathering governors are designated P-A31-X/Y and P-A41-X/Y. Dimensions and external appearance of those governors are similar to governors with connection to accumulator.

Unfeathering
If unfeathering with accumulator is demanded, there is between governor accumulator fitting and accumulator placed electrically operated Unfeathering Solenoid Check Valve CV-04-14/E1 or CV-04-28/E1.
